Siri’s Protocol Got Cracked By Applidium, Could Bring Siri To Other Platforms

Applidium today announced that they have cracked Siri’s secuirty protocol.

Today, we managed to crack open Siri’s protocol. As a result, we are able to use Siri’s recognition engine from any device. Yes, that means anyone could now write an Android app that uses the real Siri! Or use Siri on an iPad! And we’re goign to share this know-how with you.

The cracked Siri protocol could enable Siri’s speech recognition technology on any device, such as the iPhone 4, iPad, Mac, PC or even Android.

But one issue still remains: Every time you contact Apple’s servers, you need an identifier from an iPhone 4S to validate your request. While it is easy to get this identifier from an iPhone 4S with the tools provided by Applidium, you can’t just distribute one key to be used on all iPhone 4’s and possibly other platforms. Apple could then simply blacklist that identifier.

To crack Siri’s security protocol, Applidium had to set up a Proxy Server, use a fake DNS server and create some custom certificates to get the content of Siri’s messages. If you are interested in how exactly they did it, visit their website.

With the cracked Siri protocol, we could see some amazing things. We may see Siri ported to other devices, maybe even other platforms, or we could see some tweaks to allow custom commands for Siri.

This hack by Applidium certainly is a breakthrough in Siri Hacking, but it looks like @tmm1 and @chpwn did the same or something very similar weeks ago with HubotSiri. The difference is that Applidium released all their tools to the public.

The tools they wrote can be downloaded here: GitHub: Cracking Siri
