Siri ported to the iPhone 4, we finally have video proof. No public release anytime soon

@stroughtonsmith was the first one to get the Siri UI working on an iPhone 4 after the iPhone 4S and Siri were released. He then stopped working on the port. Today, he got together with @chpwn and they managed to fully port Siri over to the iPhone 4 and iPod Touch!

They released a video showing Siri running on an iPhone 4S and an iPhone 4 side by side.

The bad news: A jailbreak of an iPhone 4S was required for this hack. This means two things. Firstly, because the files used have been copied from an iPhone 4S, they are not allowed to distribute them. And secondly, we have to wait until a public jailbreak is out until further information about this port will be released. @stroughtonsmith confirmed that they will reveal all details as soon as they are sure it doesn’t break other things and after the iPhone 4S jailbreak is out.

To confirm: all details will be revealed once I confirm it works, doesn’t break other things, and is safe. Likely after 4S JB release (reqd) - @stroughtonsmith

It’s not that @stroughtonsmith and I don’t want to share Siri for iPhone 4/iPod touch 4G or tell you how we did it. It’s that we can’t. :( - @chpwn

9to5mac interviewed @stroughtonsmith about the port. He said that they are now looking to confirm that their port is working on all devices. Right now, they got it working on two devices and the port is 100% functional. He also said that he won’t be distributing his port through Cydia or any other jailbreak stores, as his port contains copyrighted material.

Head over to 9to5mac for the full interview.

  1. Sorry, I didn´t understand something. If they (or he) can´t publish the files because legal problems, it means not siri for ever?

How will possible avoid the legal problems?

Thanks for all help and info

    • No, we will most likely get Siri on our iPhone 4 at some point.
As soon as the public jailbreak for the iPhone 4S is available, they will release all the details they have about their port. This means that other people can port it as well and they could release it to the public.
And once we can decrypt the IPSW of the iPhone 4S, we can extract the files from there.
